Position Summary

The Service Apprentice supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of sanitary process equipment, including pumps, piping systems, valves, and related components. This role provides hands-on training and development under the guidance of experienced service technicians, with a focus on building mechanical, technical, and field service skills within hygienic manufacturing environments such as food & beverage, dairy, and pharmaceutical facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technicians with the installation, disassembly, and reassembly of pumps, valves, and sanitary piping systems
  • Support routine maintenance, cleaning (CIP), and inspection of processing equipment
  • Help troubleshoot mechanical and process issues in the field and in shop environments
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks such as gasket replacement, seal changes, and torqueing connections
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized work environment
  • Follow all safety protocols and sanitary standards when working on customer sites
  • Accurately document service activities, parts used, and time spent on jobs
  • Participate in ongoing technical training and skill development programs
  • Travel to customer sites with senior team members as required

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or vocational training preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude with interest in hands-on work
  • Basic understanding of tools, equipment, and mechanical systems
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn in a field-based environment
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a team
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally (and occasionally overnight)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to pumps, piping, fluid systems, or industrial equipment
  • Internship, co-op, or part-time experience in manufacturing, maintenance, or mechanical service
  • Basic knowledge of sanitary standards (3-A, FDA, USDA)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in industrial environments, including confined spaces and varying temperatures
  • Ability to stand, kneel, and work with hands for extended periods
  • Travel as needed to customer locations
